Respondus Monitor Service Notice - Resolved

Resolved –  Between the approximate times of 3am to 7:45am PST (10:00 and 14:45 UTC), one of the Respondus Monitor media servers was failing to accept new streams.  Students who retried their attempt were able to start their sessions.  This issue is resolved.

Respondus Monitor Service Notice

On Tuesday, December 8, at approximately 11:15 pm PST (7:15 GMT Wednesday), Respondus Monitor users experienced an error message for approximately 12 minutes. Students were unable to start an exam requiring Respondus Monitor during this time; instructors were unable to access the LockDown Browser Dashboard during this time. Students with exams already underway were unaffected by this issue; proctoring results were also unaffected. The source of the problem was a database connection failure.

On November 25 between the approximate times of 6am PST and 10:30pm PST, the Respondus Monitor service experienced significant slowdowns, and eventually, a total outage. This was related to service degradation and failures at the AWS data center in N Virginia.

Respondus Monitor service notice

Between 7:35pm and 9:00pm PDT (3:35am - 5:00am GMT) on Nov 19th 2020, the Respondus Monitor service experienced significant slowdowns related to AWS issues in the N Virginia data center. Once AWS resolved the issue, our system returned to normal operation. We have investigated why failover to a different data center didn’t occur as expected during this unique AWS outage, and are implementing a change to prevent this from occurring in the future.
